Do I need to be a member to apply?

Yes, only members can apply. You can join SET online or by phoning 0800 093 9111 (Mon – Fri, 9.30am to 5pm).

How much does it cost to take ATS?

Undertaking ATS will cost £915.

When can I apply for ATS?

You can apply for ATS from 2 June until 30 September 2025.

How is ATS an alternative route to SET Fellowship?

ATS is an alternative route to SET Fellowship for those members who have not gained a Master’s Degree in Education or the main subject they teach. The aim is to enable high performing teachers and trainers from a diverse range of settings to undertake ATS.

I do not have QTS, can I apply?

You can but you will need to hold a Level 5 or above initial teacher education qualification for a minimum of five years.

Can I stagger my payments for ATS?

You can pay this in instalments, with an initial payment of £240, followed by three monthly direct debit payments of £225.

How do I apply for ATS?

If you are a member of SET and meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply to undertake our Professional Development programme via the SET webiste.

What sort of evidence do I need to provide in the portfolio?

You will be guided to complete your portfolio and evidence gathering to demonstrate that you have developed deep expertise in both the theory and practice of teaching during the process. This includes providing assessment and planning documentation covering aspects of your career development and support of colleagues, and a record of the professional reading and CPD activities.

What do I need to do to maintain ATS once I’ve been awarded?

All ATS holders are required to reaccredit their professional status every three years. To facilitate this, SET runs an annual accreditation event, which is held in March, online and at no charge.
